The Last Phase in Manuscript Prep for Publication

Crafting Chapter One at a Villa in Mauna Kea

After a week of serious time in the chair, plugging away at each of my editor’s changes and comments, I was able to send the latest version of my Greg Scarpa biography manuscript back to my publisher, WildBlue Press. Lots of meticulous work and not much else these last several days, but now that the work is done, it feels as if we’re over the hump, at least as far as the content of the book goes. The interior and cover designs are next which I’ll leave for the most part to the pros. I’ll have a chance to provide input about whatever they create, but I don’t anticipate having much to say. I learned a long time ago to stay in my lane, as they say, so that’ll be my overall approach. The last manuscript/content phase is primarily proofing. Having two proofreaders going over the text means that four sets of eyes will have had a focused shot at putting together what will turn out to be the final product. That seems like a solid plan, one designed to ensure a polished, professional book.

So there it is: another step taken, another task completed, and that much closer to publication. As the nearly three-year process progresses, I find myself moving further and further from imposter syndrome attacks while settling into the reality of publication.

As always, I’ll keep you posted.
