A Chance to Promote My Upcoming Book on “True Crime Talk”

Last week I had the pleasure of being a guest on True Crime Talk, a podcast that is the brainchild of my publisher, WildBlue Press. We spent about an hour talking about my new book, Greg Scarpa, Legendary Evil. If all continues to go well with the book’s production, the podcast episode will drop on the Thursday or Friday before the book’s official release date of July 22nd.

The session was my second experience as a podcast guest, the first being back in 2020 on Mark Valley’s podcast The Live Drop, a series that primarily delves into the world of espionage in its many forms. We discussed serving in the U.S. Army in Berlin, and my Cold War spy thrillers, The Nick Temple Files. And years ago, before podcasts existed, I was interviewed on a live radio talk show about a legal matter I was working on at the time. It was a show that included questions from callers while it was airing. It gave me the opportunity to say, for public consumption, “I understand the caller’s concern.” That was the personal highlight of my brief moment in radio broadcasting. That simple phrase made me feel momentarily in tune (so to speak) with the zeitgeist of the 1990s! Fast forward to 30 years later and being a podcast guest once again has given me the sense of participating in a cultural medium spawned by our contemporary technological and cultural preferences.

I have heard it said many times that once you’ve written a book, the hard work begins. That phrase is a nod to the considerable effort involved in securing a publishing deal, getting the book ready for publication, and thereafter promoting the book. It may be that the post-writing phase is seen as more difficult than the writing phase given an author’s lack of complete control over one as opposed to the other. Be that as it may, I have to say that I have enjoyed the publication and marketing process to date. That could simply be a function of the way WildBlue Press has operated and treated me. I am grateful to them for their planning, resources, efforts, and expertise. And their having created a podcast that features true crime authors is one of many reasons I am delighted they offered to publish my book.

As always, I’ll keep you posted.
